Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

Chapter 7 is designed for those debtors in financial difficulty who do not have the ability to pay back their existing debts.  Debtors whose debts are primarily consumer debts are subject to a "means test" designed to determine whether the case should be permitted to proceed under Chapter 7.

If your income is greater the median income for the state of Wisconsin and family size, in some cases, creditors have there right to object to your case.  Under Chapter 7 you may claim various asserts as exempt under governing law.  The purpose of filing a Chapter 7 is to obtain a discharge of your existing debts although some debts may not be dischargeable i.e., most taxes, student loans and domestic support.
